THE WAFFLE MAKER

We spent last week with my husband’s family in North Carolina celebrating my mother in law’s 70th birthday. We all had fun, relaxing week but the most special part was seeing my kids interact, play, sing, dance and swim with their cousins (varying in ages from 3 to 15). They (quite literally) provided the entertainment for the week!

By Thursday, my nagging to do list of neglected house projects, back to school prep and well, continuing to get acclimated to my Macaroni Kid responsibilities were giving me an increasing amount of anxiety to get home! But I made a promise with myself that I would NOT get caught up in the back to school slump but rather enjoy the last weeks at home with my kids.

So, what’s the first thing I did, you might ask? On our drive home I ordered our groceries as I always do (online, of course!) and I decided to add a waffle maker to the order. Why? Because every year I make a promise to myself to be a better parent and wife in the mornings. More prepared to get the kids sitting down to a good breakfast, getting a workout in before they wake up, sending them to school with healthier lunches, etc, etc. Sound familiar? As parents we are hard on ourselves and I am trying to take it one step at a time! Today that started with homemade waffles. I am a big believer that those few minutes of attention and calm in the morning can really set up a child for a successful day. It’s all about creating a manageable routine and then sticking with it! Why is that so hard to do?!?!?

As the school year begins, let’s make a pact as parents not to be too hard on ourselves…I’m taking it one small appliance at a time! I’d love for your to share your morning hacks and secrets with me at aliciacarmody@macaronikid.com. I hope everyone is approaching this year with excitement and setting yourself up for success! Please share your “how you do it” with me below and I’ll continue to share mine with you!

Have a great week!
