Elephant and Piggie's "We are in a Play" is full of energy and fun!

The award winning children's book characters come to life on stage now until October 27th!

October 2, 2019

Elephant and Piggie come to life in the stage production of Elephant and Piggie: We are in a Play! at the Adventure Theater at Glen Echo Park, MD. The delightful main characters of the beloved Mo Willems books lead you through 50 minutes of friendship, songs, humor and had the audience laughing through the entire show!

Gerald, the elephant, is played by Derrick Truby and is as funny in person as he is in the books! Piggie, played by Karen Vincent has her cute as can be costume and pigtails, is cheerful, rosy and has an incredible singing voice! Elephant and Piggie have characteristics that are opposite one another - Gerald is over-analytical and anxious while Piggie is more happy go lucky and carefree. That is something many children can relate to and Mo Willems uses these traits to show how the two friends work out a disagreement or handle a tricky situation. The back up singers, the Squirrelles, have flashy costumes and keep the audience on their toes with spontaneous peeking behind doors, singing and playing instruments or helping Elephant and Piggie find their way. The lighting and sets were impressive and the audience really enjoyed the participation and humor towards the end.

Whether Elephant and Piggie were going to a party, eating ice cream, looking for each other, or playing with funny toys, the show was delightful and entertaining and you could tell by the laughter in the audience that the children (and parents!) loved every minute of it!
